Today, the rural and remote areas of Canada and the US are witnessing numerous construction and development projects. Different sectors, including railways, energy, and mining, are incessantly working to connect these areas without destroying sensitive ecological zones. However, the lack of strong telecommunication networks is presenting a major roadblock in continuing these projects. An advanced network is instrumental in making data accessible, reducing corporate costs, expanding businesses, and enhancing productivity. Additionally, companies, stakeholders, and workers need reliable and secure network coverage to stay interconnected to work and communicate efficiently without any disruption.
Effectively addressing this need is Rigstar Industrial Telecom—a Canadian and US Industrial Telecom Service Provider.
“Rigstar brings a competitive advantage to those areas that were previously served by one of the larger carriers or no one at all. Now, we offer every industry, such as railways, forestry, and others, a choice when it comes to selecting a telecom partner,” prides Coralee Mazurek, COO, Rigstar Industrial Telecom. “Our high-quality services and support have raised the bar a notch higher in the market.”
In an interaction with CIO Applications Magazine, Coralee Mazurek and Kyle Scutt, Director of Marketing, talk about how Rigstar has changed the face of the telecom industry by bringing elevated services to the most remote areas of Canada and US in a cost-effective manner.
Please tell us about Rigstar Industrial Telecom’s journey.
Rigstar Industrial Telecom began its journey by introducing a wired intercom system to the energy sector in 1998. We were founded on the premise of bringing telecom services to remote locations and have continued on that path ever since. Today, we have become a full-suite telecom service provider and are recognized as a non-dominant carrier with the CRTC. This has allowed us to develop long-term partnerships with superior vendors and offer high-quality products and services even to extremely remote regions throughout North America.

Please provide us with a case study or two to highlight the benefits you provide your customers.
Rigstar was selected as the primary telecom provider for the Coastal GasLink project. A majority of locations along the 670km pipeline route are extremely remote and had no prior communication services. Our network team analyzed the expected bandwidth consumption and applications that would empower workers to be efficient and safe. Initially, the anticipated data capacity was calculated to be much lower due to the challenging geographical, environmental, and transport conditions. However, soon we pivoted and brought in modifications that greatly increased the capacity to each site that was required for remote business, safety, and workforce accommodation purposes.
Recently, we also partnered with a major railway client to assist them in some critical requirements. They approached us to resolve issues stemming from the forest fires occurring within the region. They leveraged our remote telecom solutions to run their command centers and temporarily restore services. We also integrated our environmental sensors to provide them with an advanced warning system that enabled them to do more than just reacting during unprecedented conditions.
How does the future look like for Rigstar Industrial Telecom?
Our goal is to expand subscriptions within our service area and focus on augmenting our Industrial installations with our IoT network offering. We have spent the last year installing IoT gateways on our existing infrastructure that allow organizations to seamlessly access our network and immediately start collecting data. Rigstar continues to research cutting-edge technology to ensure our valued customers receive the latest in telecommunication hardware and always stay connected.
